My view on mindful eating is a little bit different than most proponents. Mindful eating claims to help with weight loss, binge eating, and other emotional challenges with food. I have found that imbalances in the body play a much larger role in creating these problems. This includes brain chemistry, digestion, blood sugar imbalances, and fatty acid deficiency. It’s important to address these imbalances, and you can get started HERE. That said, mindful eating and creating awareness around our food does have power on it’s own. Our relationship with food should be addressed on all fronts – both the emotional/mental realm AND the physical imbalances. The two are always tied together. In fact, one imbalance we frequently talk about here at Love The Way You Eat is digestion. Slowing down and creating mindfulness around meal times, makes a huge difference in our body’s ability to digest food. Check out the posts below for more information about mindful eating.
