Looking to Turn Your Passion For Food Into a Career?
I earned my Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certification through the Nutritional Therapy Association. This program was perfect to help me start a career that I love! I am so excited to share my experience with the program.
My Favorite Things About NTA
Based on real, whole food. There’s no other program that fits with my personal food philosophy like NTA does. Their food philosophies are based on real food and backed by science. Did you know that the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is funded by giant food corporations like Coco-Cola? No wonder our nutrition advice is so mixed up! NTA has the integrity to avoid funding from companies making our nation sick.
The program is self-paced. While there are a few deadlines in order to make sure students are ready for exams and final projects, the program is mostly self paced. When I started this course, I was working as an English teacher. Anyone who knows anything about teaching understands the incredibly long hours that teachers spend grading, planning, and worrying about their students. While I loved teaching, I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. The program suggests 20 hours of study every week to stay on track. My teaching schedule made it really difficult at first, but I was able to make it work around my schedule. I was able to study less during the school week, and more on the weekends and during school breaks.
The program is vigorous. We studied everything from anatomy and physiology to business basics. NTA taught us how to critically evaluate medical research, how to best support clients in making lasting changes, and any legal issues we needed to be aware of. They taught us to think critically and always be investigating to find the root cause. There was so much information to absorb, I often felt like my brain was going to explode!
The workshop weekends. While most of the program is online, there are three workshop weekends where I was able to meet with my instructors and classmates. This class time was invaluable and we did a lot of role playing and networking with other nutritionists in the area. Class time was intense and we packed in as much practice and information as was humanly possible. These workshops gave us the hands on experience needed to be successful in a clinical setting.
Diversity of Career Paths With this certification, students go on to work one on one with clients, with doctors or chiropractors, publish books, write ecourses, work remotely via Skype, and so much more. Whatever your career plans are, NTA is a great place to start.
The knowledge I gained from this class was the springboard I needed to start a career I love. After taking the course, I feel confident that I am well prepared, and equipped with the resources to really make an impact on people’s lives. This program has truly changed my life.
